These last couple of weeks have sneaked up on me, and they are flying by!!
Grades have been completed and you will be getting report cards and IOWA test results home soon. The students worked hard during the previous couple of weeks to complete our unit on fractions, our nonfiction writings, their grade-level Michigan history chapters, and as much of our Earth Science unit as we could complete. During these last couple of weeks of school we will use short texts, in-class activities, and Discovery Education clips to continue the following topics: economics, government, area/perimeter, decimals, data graphs, sound, and light. Even though we will still be working in class, you will not see work coming home with the students. We will also use these last weeks to create a memory folder from this year and practice for our final Readers Theater performances. We are making sure to take the time to enjoy these last days with one another. :) The students have worked incredibly hard this year, and I could not be more proud of them! We are all getting nostalgic as the days wind down... I wish the very best for each of your families. It has been my absolute pleasure working with your students this year!! As some of you may already know, I will not be at Cromie next year. Instead, I will have a Math/ELA position at the middle school math, science, technology center located at Butcher in Warren. I've told the students that with hard work and continued practice, I may see some of them there in the next few years. :) Please don't hesitate to contact me in the future if needed. My email will still be [email protected] The 4th graders officially completed MSTEP testing on Monday! They showed amazing stamina and effort!
The rest of our week was back to a relatively normal schedule. Third graders will start testing on Tuesday, May 19th while the 4th graders are split between the other 4th grade classrooms. Fourth graders will also go on the field trip to the Michigan Science Center on the 20th. Thank you to Emily's mom for chaperoning! Here's our week at a glance: English Language Arts

WOW!!!!
I am absolutely bursting with pride for how hard the 4th graders have worked this week on MSTEP testing!! They should be very proud of themselves. It has taken a serious amount of focus and stamina to complete the hours of ELA testing we have done so far. Give them some extra hugs this weekend :) Of course we're only about 1/2 way there. Next week, the testing will continue with math and science. The last part of science testing will roll into the following week...then it's the 3rd graders turn to "show off all they've learned." Quick reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, May 5th In the meantime, here's what we worked on this week: English Language Arts
The students had a lot of excitement this week!

Field Trip Reminder: Make sure that students and chaperones are to school ON TIME this coming Monday, April 20th!! Bus leaves at 9:00am. Please also send disposable lunches in labeled bags. We can't wait to go on a field trip as a whole class! :)
MSTEP Reminder: 4th graders will be testing during the weeks of April 27th and May 4th. 3rd graders will be testing during the weeks of May 18th and May 26th (Monday, the 25th, is no school). We jumped right back into the swing of things coming off of spring break: English Language Arts
Thank you to everyone that volunteered to chaperone our upcoming field trips! I will be in touch as soon as I have more information.
Over the break, I have encouraged the students to use their time to get caught up on any missing working or needed corrections. They should also continue to read, read, read! They could also get started on the take-home project of making a "litter bug" from recycled materials and writing about their buggy friend. These projects are due on April 20th. I hope everyone enjoys the break! Here's a look at what the students worked on during our short week. English Language Arts
The month of March seems to be disappearing quickly! I apologize for not posting anything last week...I'll be sure to include updates from the last 2 weeks of classes in this post.

4th Grade Notices:
As you already know, the 4th graders have the opportunity to attend the play "Peter Pan" next Thursday. For those that turned in their permission slip and $5 by today, they will be at the performance for a short portion of the day on Thursday. We do not need chaperones, and they do not need to do anything special for lunch. Also, today you will be receiving a notice for a Technology Training night for parents of 4th grade students. It is planned for March 26th. The form would need to be returned ASAP to reserve your spot. IOWA testing began this week for 3rd and 4th graders. We will continue our testing next week. Keep reminding the students to get plenty of rest and a good breakfast! Here's a glimpse of our hectic week: English Language Arts
