English Language Arts
- The students have been determining if items in a text are facts or opinions.
- We also spent time in the computer lab looking at MSTEP practice items for ELA. We had previously tried out some Math practice.
- Both grade levels have moved onto our next writing genre of nonfiction. We have begun by studying nonfiction text features and brainstorming topics for the students to write about on their own.
- The students have been discovering the world of fractions. They are doing a great job of recognizing when fractions are close to 0, close to 1/2, or close to 1. They are working on modeling fractions, including those that are equal to or more than one. They have been using our homemade fraction strips to compare fractions and to find equivalent fractions. They have also begun to add fractional amounts together.
- We have a class number line that started with the benchmark fractions, and the students have been adding equivalent fractions of their own.
- The students completed an experiment to study the difference in volume of solids and liquids. We are using this to continue our investigations into the phase changes of states of matter.
- 4th graders finished their chapter with a lesson on the Civil War and Michigan's involvement. They will be working on a chapter review during class on Friday and testing early next week.
- 3rd graders finished their chapter with a lesson on the American Revolution and Michigan's involvement. They will also be working on a chapter review during class on Friday and testing early next week.
