Parent Teacher Conferences: Notes went home on Thursday regarding parent teacher conferences. There are limited spots available during the afternoon and evening of March 12th. Please return the notes to me by Monday so I can begin scheduling those times for families in need of a conference. Thank you!
March is Reading Month: Today the students received a reading log to track their reading minutes for the month of March. The goal is to read at least 15 minutes a day. They are to turn in each week's log on the Friday of that week. We will be tracking minutes as a class and their names will be entered for prizes! Please help to remind the students to write down their minutes when reading at home.
I would also like to invite any parents or special family members to come read in our classroom during the month of March. Please just notify me ahead of time by email or phone so we can schedule a visit. The students LOVE having visitors read to them! :)

Here's a recap of our 4-day week:
English Language Arts
- The students have been working on drawing conclusions and making inferences from a text. We did several examples together throughout the week, and they were assigned a text to try on their own on Friday.
- The 3rd graders are continuing to write the rough drafts of their realistic fiction stories.
- The 4th graders have chosen the theme to write about for their literary essay and are now gathering evidence from their short story.
- The students got back their division assessments from before the break. They went really well overall, but any mistakes can still be corrected and turned in by Monday for partial points back.
- We took a pretest for our Geometry unit and have begun sorting shapes and looking at their different characteristics.
- We have been focusing on different angle types and how different lines can interact with one another.
- We took a pretest on our next unit of study, States of Matter.
- We have begun by looking for different characteristics of matter, including mass.
- The students did a great job using a balance to find the mass of their objects.
- Starting next week, I will begin using at least 2 days a week of our Guided Reading time to focus on Michigan History.
- The 3rd and 4th graders are studying different historical periods of Michigan, so this will be done in small reading groups rather than whole class.
