- Please return parent/teacher conference forms ASAP so I can complete the conference schedule for Monday, November 24th and Tuesday, November 25th.
English Language Arts
- The students got back their first personal narrative with a completed rubric, and they spent this week working on a new personal narrative. In addition to the strategies learned over the last month, they will also be expected to add effective dialogue and repetitions to improve their narrative. Final drafts will be due on Monday!
- We worked again on fluency skills and using punctuation to signal pauses. We also discussed author's purpose when writing.
- As a class, we read about different idioms and their meanings.
- The students wrote notes and examples on the function of adverbs in their language arts notebooks. They also completed practice identifying adverbs.
- We have continued our exploration of multiplication strategies. They have done a great job explaining multiplication as groups, repeated addition, and as a comparison. We are now working with multi-digit numbers. The partial products strategy has been our main focus so far. Expect a quiz soon!
- Last week the students investigated their region using online maps. This week, we were able to share our discoveries through informal presentations. The students were assessed on both their speaking and the geography content. Presentations, both formal and informal, will continue throughout the year.
- The students also conducted a city search in the computer labs to learn more about the types of information that can be found on various maps.
- The students will be taking a short quiz on reading maps tomorrow.
